The ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Officer Belsar Gonzalez, who is assigned to the First Division. This nomination was submitted by Captain Christopher Kelly and seconded by Captain David Brown, who both spoke on his behalf.
As reported by Captain Kelly, “Officer Gonzalez has only been with the Department since January of 2023, and since that time, he has demonstrated a great work ethic.” He noted that he is currently working on the First Division in Car 14, and that “he has personally observed him on multiple occasions conducting himself in a professional and extremely thorough manner.”
Captain Kelly also pointed out that “Officer Gonzalez has written several outstanding reports over the past month, including one regarding a stabbing in the Commons.” He noted that “this report documented the incident and gave detailed information regarding the suspects and their involvement with a Gang, that Lynn Officers would not have been familiar with, prior to this incident.” Captain Kelly relayed that “the detailed report was also shared with our Gang Unit and outside agencies to ascertain the identity of the suspects and the potential involvement with them moving into the Lynn area.”
According to Captain Kelly, “Officer Gonzalez also wrote several arrest reports and assisted other units on multiple occasions during the previous month; and has provided interpretation skills when called upon, in order to better serve the Department and the community.” He then noted that “all of the First Division Officers that he has spoken to, as well as Officer Gonzalez’s immediate supervisors all agree that he is a very worthy candidate for the Officer of the Month, and it is his belief that “Officer Gonzalez is a great example of this award.”
Congratulations and thank you to Officer Gonzalez for a job well done.
