The ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Officer Kenneth Pedone of the Third Division. This nomination was submitted by Lieutenant Thomas Holland, who spoke on his behalf, and additional positive comments were submitted by those in attendance.
In his written nomination, Lieutenant Holland stated that “Officer Pedone has always been a hardworking and self-motivated officer.” He noted that “Officer Pedone is frequently assigned to the city’s busiest routes and handles a variety of calls and duties without complaint or excuse.” He also pointed out that “Officer Pedone is regularly assigned with newer officers, takes his training role seriously, and does a great job in mentoring younger officers.”
Lieutenant Holland reported that “Officer Pedone often leads the Division in self-initiated calls, was involved in 63 reports, and wrote 33 motor vehicle citations in the month of August.” He pointed out that “Officer Pedone was involved in 9 arrests for the month of August, and most recently was involved in the arrests of two suspects.” According to Lieutenant Holland, while checking on two individual, Officer Pedone observed evidence of possible firearms in the vehicle, and seized 3 firearms, ammo, scales, and various prescription medications.
As stated by Lieutenant Holland, “Officer Pedone’s hard work and dedication was directly responsible for taking 3 firearms off the street, and for the criminal charges to both occupants of the vehicle.” He further stated that “Officer Pedone was nominated for this recognition not for any single act or incident; but because of his consistently excellent street work that undoubtedly serves to positively impact the quality of life for the residents and businesses within the City. He is an incredible asset to the Department and is well deserving of praise.”
Congratulations and thank you to Officer Pedone for a job well done.
