The ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Detective Jeffrey Trahant, who is assigned to the Youth Services Unit. This nomination was submitted by Lieutenant Thomas Holland and seconded by Lieutenant Timothy Donovan who spoke on his behalf.
In his written nomination, Lieutenant Holland stated, “Detective Trahant is highly committed to every case, regardless of its complexity. His thorough approach to investigations not only keeps our community safe but also serves as a model for others in the department”
Lieutenant Holland noted, “a recent example of his outstanding work is his handling of a complex juvenile robbery case. At the outset, none of the suspects were identified, and Detective Trahant took the lead in piecing the case together. He meticulously reviewed hours of CCTV footage from various locations, uncovering critical evidence that allowed him to identify five out of the seven suspects involved. This investigative work was time-consuming but essential to building a solid case.
As a result of his efforts, Detective Trahant successfully sought and obtained five arrest warrants. He also played a key role in coordinating with the LPD Gang Unit, DTF, and Patrol, which led to the rapid arrest of all five suspects within just a few days. This collaboration was crucial in bringing the suspects into custody quickly and ensuring a swift resolution to the case.
According to Lieutenant Holland, “Detective Trahant consistently demonstrates the same level of dedication and professionalism in all of his work. His ability to manage complex investigations while remaining calm and organized under pressure benefits not only his peers but the entire department. He ensures that each case he handles receives the care and attention it deserves.”
