The ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Officer Lucas Harris, who is assigned to the First Division.
This nomination was submitted by Lieutenants Kenneth Runyan and David Hines. The nomination was seconded by Captain David Brown.
As noted in Lt’s Hines and Runyan’s written nomination, “The night of the High Street homicide, Officer Harris, along with Officer Correale apprehended both suspects quickly and efficiently. This was a demonstration of his courageousness and ability as an effective street officer. Though there was excellent work done by all members involved in the investigation, the actions of Officers Harris and Correale steered the event to an immediate resolution.”
They also noted, “He also works various shifts on overtime including the downtown initiative. In the past month, he has been involved in many of the arrests generated in that area. Several of them had foot pursuits and Officer Harris was able to subdue the suspects in several with appropriate force.”
They further added, “Officer Harris is a valuable asset and has matured into a reliable officer on the First Division. He’s a qualified rifle officer and can fill a need as a dispatcher or working with a newer officer. No matter where he is assigned, he does so without complaint.”
Congratulations and thank you to Officer Harris for a job well done!
