The ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Officer Tr
avis Ryan, who is assigned to the Second Division. This nomination w
as submitted by Lieutenant Michael O’Connell, who spoke on his behalf; with additional positive comments by Captain Christopher Kelly.
In his written nomination, Lieutenant O’Connell stated that “Officer Ryan serves on Second Division, where despite the youth of his career, he has emerged as not only a capable officer, but a leader as well.” He noted that Officer Ryan works in Car 15, “where he has demonstrated the principles of route ownership, accountability, and dedication to duty.” As reported by Lieutenant O’Connell, “Officer Ryan has been prominently involved in calls ranging from something as significant as homicide to minor noise complaints, and each time he does his job with an aspiration to do it well.”
He also discussed the following recent incidents involving Officer Ryan:
Officer Ryan and Officer Ashwell were on patrol at about 0430 in the area of Warren Street, when they observed a man pulling a trash bin while on a bicycle. Officer Ryan had previous knowledge of a significant amount of thefts in the Lynnway area. The officers conducted a field interview, and in doing so they identified a male suspect, in possession of a stolen jackhammer. They obtained all of party’s information and recovered the jackhammer, which allowed CID to quickly follow up with charges once the victim was identified.
At approximately 0345, in the driving rain, Officer Ryan and Officer Picanqo were out looking for a motor vehicle involved in local commercial B&Es. While doing so, they located a stolen moped, which they recovered and were able to return to the owner, who was extremely thankful. As noted by Lieutenant O’Connell, “It would have been easy to note the location of the moped and return to it when conditions were better, but the officers got out to check on it.”
As stated by Lieutenant O’Connell, “these examples are indicative of the consistently good work that Officer Ryan turns in on a daily basis. He has impressed his sergeants with his indefatigable work ethic, and proven himself to be an example for our new officers to follow.’
Congratulations and thank you to Officer Ryan for a job well done.
