The ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Officer Andrew Kreamer, who is assigned to the First Division. This nomination was submitted by Lieutenant Michael Kmiec and seconded by Lieutenant Kenneth Runyan, who both spoke on his behalf. Additional positive comments were also offered by those in attendance.
In his written nomination, Lieutenant Kmiec noted that Officer Kreamer joined the Department in 2020, and “has consistently carried himself in a professional manner.” He further stated that “Officer Kreamer has handled all assignments that he has been given without complaint, and with a maturity well beyond his years.”
As reported by Lieutenant Kmiec, “while assigned to the First Division, Officer Kreamer has routinely been called on to train new officers, despite only having a few years of patrol experience, and during the last month; Officer Kreamer was listed as the arresting officer on ten occasions, and assisted on numerous others.”
One example that he gave of “an incident that stands out” occurred on June 21, 2024, after the Department had received multiple complaints about drug activity and prostitution on Magnolia Ave, where some individuals were taking advantage of an elderly male. Officer Kreamer, along with Officer Nicholas Bona, took the initiative to check on the man’s well-being, and during the incident they were able to arrest an individual who was a cause for the complaints. Per Lieutenant Kmiec, “his simple self-initiated act, combined with other proactive activity led to an immediate reduction in complaints and calls for service at the location.”
Lieutenant Runyan provided further positive comments, stating that “Officer Kreamer has been a great asset to the First Division by being “a conscientious officer that is proactive on his route and is willing to help out with whatever is needed.” He noted that “many times, he has been pulled in to the signal room when we are low on 911 certified officers without complaint, though he would prefer to be out on the street taking care of his assigned route.” He relayed that “Officer Kreamer is aware of the players on his route and is sure to keep an eye out in his travels for those who have warrants or are known problems.” Lieutenant Runyan also expressed his agreement with Lieutenant Kmiec, stating that “Officer Kreamer has made numerous arrests recently and has conducted thorough investigations which resulted in the identification of suspects, where others may have taken just the initial report and passed it up.” He noted that “Officer Kreamer is a great example for junior officers to emulate, and represents the LPD at many events, with distinction.”
Both Lieutenants also pointed out that in addition to excelling in his day-to-day duties as patrolman, “Officer Kreamer also represented the LPD in the recent hockey and softball games against the Lynn Fire Department.”
From the period of July 21 – August 20, 2024, Officer Andrew Kreamer will have the exclusive use (24/7) of a designated parking space, which is located right next to the spaces currently reserved for our Captains.
In addition, effective January 2024 and ongoing, the individuals selected as Officer of the Month will also be awarded 1 additional bonus day (C/T day) for their outstanding efforts.
Congratulations and thank you to Officer Kreamer for a job well done.
