The ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Officer Ioan Rasinariu, who is assigned to the First Division.

This nomination was submitted by Lieutenants Kenneth Runyan and David Hines.

As noted in Lt. Runyan and Hines’ written nomination, “Officer Rasinariu has become a dependable officer for the Night Division. He has been involved with multiple recent arrests of violent individuals.”

They added, “He was an arresting officer at an incident at Walmart where the defendant was kicking and biting. At one point, the defendant tried to unsuccessfully disarm him. During a response to a domestic disturbance on Franklin Street, Officer Rasinariu thought to cover the rear of a building the incident was taking place and in doing so intercepted the fleeing defendant. Rather than wait for back-up, possibly missing an opportunity to capture the defendant, he confronted the defendant alone. A physical struggled ensued and the defendant was ultimately taken into custody.”

They also stated, “Officer Rasinariu took immediate action during a water rescue of a suicidal party who had jumped into freezing waters of Flax Pond. He didn’t hesitate to position himself on the ice without protective gear and was an integral part of the successful rescue of the individual.”

They concluded by saying. “Officer Rasinariu is an officer who steps up to the plate and carries out his duties and should be recognized for his efforts to the department, as well as, the public.”

Congratulations and thank you to Officer Rasinariu for a job well done!
