The ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Officer Aedan Leydon, who is assigned to the First Division.
This nomination was submitted by Lieutenant Kenneth Runyan and seconded by Captain Chris Kelly and Sergeant Gary Hagerty. As noted in Lt. Runyan’s written nomination, “Officer Leydon is a reliable officer, is knowledgeable of the impact players and trouble locations on his route, consistently works to curtail issues and in the past month, has been listed as an arresting officer on numerous incidents.” Lt. Runyan also added, “Two recent incidents that stand out as examples of his hard work include a sexual assault investigation on Third Division on 12/29 where he came in on overtime. Det. Tinkham advised Officer Leydon had done an excellent job throughout, explaining to both the victim and the nurses at the hospital the necessary steps. The resulting investigation ended in a warrant being issued and the defendant arrested on 12/30 in less than 24 hours.
The second incident occurred on First Division on 12/29 where Officer Leydon, along with Officer McHale, observed a motor vehicle in the area of Curwin Cir. Through prior knowledge about gang connections in that area, along with the anniversary of a shooting, they conducted a stop which resulted in a handgun and rifle being recovered along with ammunition. The four passengers, two of which were juveniles, were taken into custody and one was violated on his release for similar charges. Sgt. Hagerty advised Gang Unit personnel had been monitoring the area and there was an unusually high amount of activity in and around Curwin Cir. The stop and subsequent arrest without a doubt stopped a serious incident occurring”. Lt. Runyan further noted, “Officer Leydon is always willing to help with whatever is needed and is well-deserving of this acknowledgement.”
Congratulations and thank you to Officer Leydon for a job well done!
