The ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Officer Benjamin Craven, who is assigned to the First Division. This nomination was submitted by Captain Christopher Kelly and seconded by Sergeant Gary Hagerty, who both spoke on his behalf.
In his written nomination, Captain Kelly noted that Officer Benjamin Craven joined the Department in 2021, and has performed great work since his arrival. Officer Craven has demonstrated a proactive performance during this time.
As reported by Captain Kelly, Officer Craven has written numerous arrest reports over the past month. Officer Craven recently wrote a search warrant for the possible possession of illegal firearms while handling a call on Division. His report writing is extremely thorough and he takes the extra time for important details. He also pointed out that he has experienced Officer Craven’s professionalism while handling family members during death investigations. Officer Craven like many other young Officers on this Department has become a young veteran presence to the newer Officers. Captain Kelly relayed that “Officer Craven has volunteered for many CID Gang Suppression assignments and other roles, such as a defensive tactics instructor.” Officer Craven brings a positive influence to his job performance, and is worthy of being selected as Officer of the Month.
Sgt. Gary Hagerty provided further positive comments, stating that “Officer Craven has been a great asset to the First Division by being “a conscientious officer that is proactive on his route and is willing to help out with whatever is needed.
Congratulations and thank you to Officer Craven for a job well done.
