Officer Brendan Powicki

Officer Brendan Powicki PortraitThe ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Officer Brendan Powicki of the Third Division. This nomination was submitted by Lieutenant Robert Godbout, who spoke on his behalf, and additional positive comments were submitted by those in attendance.

In his written nomination, Lieutenant Godbout stated that “Officer Powicki has been with the department since January of 2020, and brings a positive attitude with him to work every day.” He also noted that “Officer Powicki conducts himself in a professional and courteous manner; and whether he is tasked with training newer officers or being moved from his regularly assigned car to fill an opening in Dispatch, Officer Powicki does whatever is asked of him.

Lieutenant Godbout reported that Officer Powicki has benefited the department by bringing his prior experiences as an EMT and becoming a CPR/First Responder Instructor. He further stated that “through his training as a CIT certified officer, Officer Powicki has resolved many volatile situations without incident.”

He also pointed out that Officer Powicki was selected to orient the last two groups of newly hired officers on the duties of a patrol officer, such as; report writing, logging into QED, booking and more. As stated by Lieutenant Godbout, “Officer Powicki continues to be an asset to the Department and represents the qualities that today’s society demands.”

Lieutenant Godbout noted that “Officer Powicki is always a pleasure to work with, he handles any assignments without complaint, and is very level headed.” He then referenced the following recent incidents involving Officer Powicki:

  • On Friday, August 4, 2023, Officer Powicki dealt with a female suspect at the Joyce Street Walgreens, during a shoplifting incident. “Despite the fact that the suspect had made spurious complaints against Officer Powicki in the past, and continued her verbal abuse during this incident; he treated her with courtesy and professionalism, while making the determination to take her into custody.”
  • On Saturday, August 5, 2023, Officer Powicki was partnered with Officer Hogan, and was dispatched to a possible OD at a Chatham Street location. Officer Powicki found the male victim with agonal breathing, and applied several rubs to his sternum to wake him. Narcan did not have to be used to revive the victim, who was very agitated and aggressive towards the officers. He pointed out that “Officer Powicki remained calm and was able to defuse the situation so that the victim could be transported to Beverly Hospital without incident, and did this while also maintaining the safety of his trainee partner.”

Congratulations and thank you to Officer Powicki for a job well done.
