The ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Officer Sean Hickey, who is assigned to the First Division.
This nomination was submitted by Lieutenant Mark Duran and seconded by Captain William Sharpe.
As noted in Lt. Duran’s written nomination, “Officer Sean Hickey is highly deserving of recognition for his continued dedication to both patrol operations and departmental training initiatives.” He added, “Officer Hickey is heavily relied upon for training coordination and scheduling, and he consistently makes himself available to support both in-service personnel and new recruits. He further noted, “Officer Hickey volunteered his own time to purchase and gather materials used to construct realistic training environments for room-clearing drills during pistol training—an effort that received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participating officers. Additionally, he also serves as one of the department’s Master TASER Instructors and has played a critical role in advancing training capabilities. This spring, he dedicated significant personal time to learning and developing a comprehensive lesson plan for the implementation of the department’s new VR training system. His work has allowed officers to gain increased exposure and repetition with the TASER platform in a controlled and effective environment.” Captain Sharpe added, “Officer Hickey has taken the initiative in ensuring that the delivery of VR training met the training needs of officers, and he is an excellent instructor who cares about the quality and delivery of training.” Lt. Duran concluded by saying, “As a veteran patrol officer, Officer Hickey consistently serves as a mentor and coach to newer officers, providing guidance, support, and leadership in the field. His initiative, professionalism, and commitment to improving officer preparedness make him an outstanding candidate for Officer of the Month.”
Congratulations and thank you to Officer Hickey for a job well done!
