The ‘Officer of the Month’ award recognizes the efforts of an individual with the rank of patrol officer from Division or a Special Unit, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication in the performance of his/her duties during the previous month. I am very pleased to announce that our selection for this month’s LPD ‘Officer of the Month’ is Officer Lashaunda Hogan, who is assigned to the Second Division.
This nomination was submitted by Lieutenant Michael O’Connell and seconded by Lieutenant David Hunter.
As noted in Lt. O’Connell’s written nomination, “2nd Division recently found themselves with a runaway juvenile from Summer St. The teen involved was extremely closed off and apprehensive about speaking with the police. Officer Hogan, despite the origin of the call being well off her route, was called upon to make what connections she could. For the next 5 hours Officer Hogan tirelessly advocated for the youth, and when it became quite clear that reunification with the foster parent could not peacefully occur, Officer Hogan waited with the juvenile until DCF arrived to claim her. It was impressive for such a new officer to show as much patience and understanding as Officer Hogan did on that date.”
Lt. Hunter added, “I first worked with Officer Hogan during our speed enforcement on Millard Ave. She was diligent in taking ownership of this problem on her route, and I do not believe it was her regular car at this time. She is always willing to learn and improve her skills. While working Division, I have seen more of the same from her. She is willing to accept any assignment that is given to her and does it to the best of her ability.”
It was also noted that, “She has a dedication to community and was the first officer approached when tasked with coming up with Community Policing ideas for the 2nd Division. She quickly came up with several ideas for us to try and was excited about taking on a leadership role in that initiative when it comes. She is taking up the mantle of community policing for the next generation.”
Congratulations and thank you to Officer Hogan for a job well done!
